Elephant for Mara.
16x20inch oil painting by Chad Smalt 2012
So a friends daughter really likes elephants. She’s 5, she likes to draw and stuff, and I thought I’d make her a painting of an elephant, give her some of the acrylic paint I don’t use, and maybe in 20 years she’ll be on AAT making us look bad. I didn’t have a picture of her to work from, but I thought she’d like the idea of meeting an elephant so that’s supposed to be her, or someone that looks like her, no picture means no face, so she just has “hair head”. I started this last year, something like 9 months ago I think, never really liked it so didn’t finish it… but then I thought, doesn’t really matter if I like it that much, and got it done.
First painting of 2012 is an elephant and a little girl. hah didn’t see that coming…

My first piece of 2012 is a zombie cat. Let 2012 be the year of strange subject matter!
haha I started this so long ago, even more strange that it somehow ended up being the first I finished in the new year.
and today, finally reading these posts, I’m finding new and exciting ways to use patterns I’ve been making for year out of skeleton leaves from my garden.
I love love sharing processes and art evolvement with you guys
