Night Mare
Here’s the other illustration I discovered and finished finally. It’s in the same vein as the owl illustration. Both seem to have sort of an eerie/mysterious feeling to them, which I didn’t quite expect, but like the outcome. It was also fun to take a break from the abstract paintings I normally do, and get involved in some animal studies. Anyways, I hope you like them.
Materials: charcoal pencil, tea, coffee, arches watercolor paper. Size: 9″ x 11″
Thanks!

So are you planning on making any new drawings like these?
I might! It’s a style/subject I seem to revisit, usually when a particular animal strikes my fancy. Maybe I’ll do a series of different types of owls. I don’t know. what do you think is an interesting animal?
Owl sounds good to me.
Love!!! I really hope you are planning more in this style. Do you draw from life, photos, memory? Animals have always been my own favorite subject…
I would love to draw from life, but have to resort to photos mostly, since living in brooklyn doesn’t lend itself to having a lot of animals around. But yeah, animals are such great subjects, right?
Great title.
Thanks Emily!
Gorgeous, love these pieces!
You could do some of local Brooklyite animals! Pigeons, sparrows, starling, dogs…etc. Love this style and would love to see more. I’m the same way with animal reference and will often use “local animals” or run to the zoo if I need to.
