Moldmaking…
Sorry for the silence… I’ve been busy getting ready for a show…and starting a business. Here’s a quick photo of the first cost of rubber on the zombie cat. My husband (also a sculptor) is making the mold for me as a birthday present (now that is love!). I’ll post more process photos soon, but this is basically the first of 5 coats of polyurethane rubber used to make the rubber mold. The rubber, once set, then is covered with a plaster “mother mold” (think exoskeleton, holding the shape of the rubber.) Rubber molds allow you to cast more than one of the sculpture. This piece will be an edition of 10 I think… will keep you posted on progress!

Wow, so awesome! I can’t even comprehend the process you are explaining.. seems so involved. Good stuff, Darla, can’t wait to see the completed piece!
What a treat to see how this piece evolves. I’m with Lauren–can’t wait to see the finish!
Oh wow, that is scary! haha
Very interesting to hear about the process. I know nothing about mold making. Keep teaching us Darla.
what a treat to get an insider view!
